June Update

Hi Gang

Gosh just noticed i have hit 1000 hits :)

well so far the slugs have wiped out all my tomatos, beans, peas and most of the brassicas i sowed in the mini greenhouse.

Petes very kindly strimmed down the bottom of my plot and i have sown some onions and carrots this weekend.

Still lots to do and no time to do it.

Growing well are garlic, potatoes, carrots, shallots, salads, herbs and oh course rhubarb.

may update

Well its been very wet and a couple of late frosts which has wiped out all my courgettes and pumpkings.

Sweetcorn has germinated, as have the cabbages and pak choi.

I am winning the war against weeds and should be able to get the rest of the membrane down for my paths this week and with look dug over my pean and bean beds for planting.

In the greenhouse my onions, stir fry veg, b.sprouts, and the sunflowers and beans that have survived the slugs need to be hardened off before going up to the lotty. Chillis and aubergines are getting big in the kitchen and are ready to move up the greenhouse which i should be moving into place in the next week.

oh and i have a confession i have surcumed to thompson and morgans sale, in my defence i did have a 5 pound voucher

Update

Since my last update i have now managed to add all the new beds bar one.

I have been working on adding supports to my shed for the winter, working on the content of the compost bin, and adding all the new raised beds and the surround for the base of the greenhouse.

New list of things to do this month

Compost Bin
============
Hammer in posts for compost bin to make more sturdy
Nail compost bin to new steaks
Make hinged roof
staple chicken wire to leaf mould area (going to be filled for me).

Beds
====
Finish digging over new beds.
Harvest last of spuds
Weed existing beds.
Add a couple of barrows of horse manure to each new bed**
Plant with over wintering veg
Move fruiting plants into place
Hammer in 2 posts into permiant raspberry bed
Remove posts from existing bean beds.

Paths
=====
add a layer of cardboard and membrane and then a layer of wood chips.

Greenhouse
==========
Cut out membrane
Cable tie netting to fence
Add horse manure and soil to build up levels **
Add polystyrine to corner of the fence post to stop wind dammage to greenhouse.
move greenhouse over and postcrete into place

**When we get more soil top up beds
**As new beds are filled with soil plant up fruit plants
